Teaching Style:
Students begin to learn from the Buddy Rich/Henry Adler Modern Interpretation of Snare Drum Rudiments, then progress to the George Stone Stick Control and Jim Chapin Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer, I also suggest Carl Gardner Progressive Studies for the Snare Drum, Ted Reed Progressive Steps to Syncopation for the Modern Drummer. Reading drum music, developing timing and studying the core twenty-six rudiments are primary to progress musically. Adults may choose to learn general techniques, or simply favorite songs or parts of songs. Traditional and/or matched grip styles are taught.

Philosophy:
In order to attain the height of their profession, a drummer must strive to be as good a musician as any member of a band or orchestra. Not only is it important that they read music, but, they must also have a solid background in the art of drumming; that is to say, they must be well versed in all of the rudiments. Learning an instrument is a continuum. Drumming is holistic; learning to have ones’ body and mind in balance and expressed rhythmically. Proper posture at the drum-set, relaxation in body movements and relating these issues to balance in sound in ones' playing and the ability to control all four limbs are the main goals; personal enjoyment too!

Age Recommendation:
It is never too late to begin drumming; I do recommend a begining age of not earlier than nine; progress depends on dedication. A drum kit, drum pads, metronome and a CD player are provided in a comfortable, professional home studio; parents are welcome. Daily practice of at least ½ hour will work wonders. The only vital requirement to master any drum instruction book or exercise is regular practice; and, to the student, the services of an expert instructor are primary.

Lesson Scheduling:
Lessons are one on one. Rates are $20.00 per half hour $40.00 per hour. The payment terms are: each month's lessons to be paid on the first lesson of each month. If you cancel a lesson, a 24 hour notice (or more) is required for the lesson to be rescheduled, otherwise the lesson will not be made up and payment is owed. Purchase of the appropriate books, sticks, brushes or other personal tools is the responsibility of the student.
